The 2011 season marked Bill Brown’s 25th season as the club’s primary play-by-play voice on television. In addition to celebrating his “Silver” Anniversary in 2011, Brown earned multiple honors during the season. He was named to the Houston Baseball Media Wall of Honor, was a nominee for the ballot for the 2012 National Baseball Hall of Fame Ford C. Frick Award and earned the Fred Hartman Award for Long and Meritorious Service to Baseball from the Houston Chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America.

Bill joined the Astros in 1987 after working as senior producer and anchor of the Financial News Network’s SCORE program. Prior to that assignment, he was sports director of the Sports Time Cable Network, which televised selected games of the Reds, Royals and Cardinals. Bill was a finalist for the 2010 National Sportscaster and Sportswriters Association Texas Sportscaster of the Year Award. He spent one year with HSE in Pittsburgh and was the television voice of the Cincinnati Reds from 1976-82. He was later inducted into the Texas Baseball Hall of Fame on November 12, 2004. In October of 2007, Brown organized an annual charity golf tournament to benefit the organization.

Bill is a member of the Advisory Board at Houston Taping for the Blind and has been a volunteer reader for 15 years. Bill and his wife, Dianne, reside in Houston. They have one daughter, Allison, and three grandchildren: Luke, 8, Emma Kate, 6, and Caitlynn, 3.
